When I visited PRONI in August 2007, I found a chart on the family of William Boyd, MD, of Hillborough, Co Down (1829-1884). His wife's name was Maria (no surname) - born 1826 and died 6 March 1906. William and Maria appear to have married about 1855 or 1856, but no date was given. His first son - Henry Johnston Boyd - was born in 1857 and was also a Doctor at Killborough and died 24 March 1925. The only data for William's parents was that of his mother, Dorothera - no surnmae - born 1785 and died 1865. If you are a descendant of this family, I would like t hear from you please. Or know its origins? Thank you. Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS
Mike I lived near Hillsborough, for 30 years, but now in Australia. Henry Boyd delivered my parents six children, after that there was a Dr Boyd in between who had two sons Colin and a brother who was a wonderful young man and a great, caring doctor, but he died young. don't remember his christian name. I am 78 now and I think Colin would have been younger than I am and may be still alive. If he is he would probably still be living in the doctor's residence where all of the above lived. Hillsborough is a very small village and a letter addressed to Dr Boyd, Lisburn St, Hillsborough might just find him or a descendant.
