    3. Likely you are aware of John Allen & Agnes's gravestone in Bangor Abbey. She died 1883 Dec. 22. Daughter Sarah d. June 7 1885. John d. June 19 1899. The inscription appears to have been arranged by Margaret Major. I think these Allens were related to the Allens of Crawfordsburn and Ballygrot (now Helen's Bay). ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim & Sherry Beattie" <jim.sherrybeattie@kos.net> To: <nir-down@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, November 22, 2007 3:18 PM Subject: Re: [NIR-DOWN] Allen (and a HANNA) > Hi Bev > > Thanks a million and all the best > Jim > jim.sherrybeattie@kos.net > ----- Original Message ----- > Record Type Civil Birth >> Date of Birth 21 Nov 1870 >> Name Agnes Elizabeth ALLEN >> Gender F >> Fathers Name John ALLEN >> Mothers Maiden Name Agnes Elizabeth MCKEE >> Civil District Newtownards >> Sub District Bangor >> County Down >> >> Record Type Civil Birth >> Date of Birth 8 Sep 1870 >> Name Agnes Jane ALLEN >> Gender F >> Fathers Name John ALLEN >> Mothers Maiden Name Agnes HANNA >> Civil District Newtownards >> Sub District Bangor >> County Down >> >> No transcription for Margaret, Jim. >> >> Cheers >> Bev >> >> >> ------------------------------- >> To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to >> NIR-DOWN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the >> quotes in the subject and the body of the message >> > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > NIR-DOWN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Hi Hugh Thanks for the info re: John and Agnes. I was not aware of their final resting spot. I am trying to find info re my greatgrandmother Agnes Jane Allen who gave birth to Margaret Allen on December 24 1888/9. No father is listed on this birth cert. My grandmother however listed a John Allen as her father on her marriage cert to my grandfather James Beattie of Cottown in 1906. It is not an easy puzzle to put together for sure. THe only other clue that I have is a letter to my grandmother in 1970 by her cousin Madge Campbell of Rathmore St off Ravenhill Rd Belfast that mentioned the names of Archie, John and Freddie Allen. My grandmother never spoke of her family that I know of when she was alive and my father knew nothing of them. Like I said, not an easy puzzle to fit together. Anyway, thanks a million for the cemetery info all the best Jim jim.sherrybeattie@kos.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hugh Macartney" <hhmacartney@shaw.ca> To: <nir-down@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, November 22, 2007 10:31 PM Subject: Re: [NIR-DOWN] Allen (and a HANNA) > Likely you are aware of John Allen & Agnes's gravestone in Bangor Abbey. > She died 1883 Dec. 22. 3. There is also a gravestone for a Robert and Jane Allen of Belfast in Bangor Abbey. (Small marble shield in a high railed enclosure, probably 1840-60. Interred here the remains of Robert Allen of Belfast. Also Jane, his beloved wife, with four of their children who died young. Since they were buried in Bangor it suggests at least one of them was from there. Looking at the 1843 Belfast Directory I see a John Allen, Shoemaker, 53 North Queen St. Another John Allen was a bricklayer, 32 Church Lane. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim & Sherry Beattie" <jim.sherrybeattie@kos.net> To: <nir-down@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, November 23, 2007 4:18 PM Subject: Re: [NIR-DOWN] Hugh's reply to Allen (and a HANNA) > Hi Hugh > > Thanks for the info re: John and Agnes.
