As we NIR researchers are well aware, we rely on Tithes and Griffiths and generous souls who will research for us at PRONI or those who are prepared to "walk the cemeteries". Some are able to travel to Ireland and that would be the greatest thrill! I had a friend in Ballynahinch who worked hard for us and sent copies of material from PRONI and took photos of the old house at Ballycreen and the cemetery stone in the Old Magherdrool Church Yard. Our most treasured possessions! Back to work Cheers Bev
Bev, being new to NIR genealogy research, I'm at a loss about Tithes and Griffiths. Could you pls explain or send me in the right direction. My ancestor James NEWALL was from Ballycastle, Down and left for Burntisland, Fife sometime before 6 Nov 1843 when he married Margaret SALMOND in Burntisland. I couldn't find him in the Scottish 1841 census. From your experience, where would you head next to try to find his family in Ballycastle. I've tried the old and faithful ways like Family Search. Thanks in advance for any advice. Dawn Williams, again.
