Are you referring to the caora.net generic webpage message? This is from network solutions (which used to be the Internic) and is simply a placeholder, probably related to the expiry of the hosting service. Having myself been in the situation of needing to negotiate the management of a web service with my provider, I am sure that Network solutions has not gained any ownership rights over the database belonging to Caora. I recall a message from the_researcher stating that the website was 'under construction' and a whois search reveals the following information for the owner of the domain name: *Administrative Contact , Technical Contact :* Killen, Brian brian@caora.net 10 Crawfordstown Road LOUGHINISLAND, UK BT30 8QQ UK Phone: +44 1843 596 206 *Record expires on* 20-Apr-2008 *Record created on* 20-Apr-2000 *Database last updated on* 06-Jan-2008 So it seems that the domain name is safe until april, even if the hosting service has expired. I have not used Network solutions as a provider but the service I use is very good at keeping databases safe as long as action is taken promptly. Perhaps the right approach now is to ask the_researcher if that action has been taken. Peter odavey@nbnet.nb.ca wrote: > I am really troubled by what has happened to this invaluable website. As a web community with deep interests in Co Down records I believe we all should be worried that the data base and the years of community input will be lost. What troubles me the most is that the creation of the site was done with such an open spirit that is not reflected in what is taking place now. The legal notice on the new site shows that new owners in California have control of the data and the domain name. For my self, I long ago transcribed the information I needed. It will be too bad if those just starting cannot get access, or if they can, only by paying through the nose. > Owen Davey, Gagetown, Canada > >
