Hi My Irish families were in Cleator Moor area of Cumberland and I do know that there was lots of unrest between protestant and catholic- riots etc, There was an orange lodge in the Whitehaven area as an orange order march took place 12 july 1884 by the Cumberland orange order, during the ensuing riot a policeman was shot and killed. Weapons including revolvers swords sabres and pikes were found. There were also other incidents sparked off by various events. I got this from cleator moor revealed- a book by Tom Duffy. No mention of any Roneys from memory- I have Roneys too and have looked at your family on census returns many a time:) I'll have a proper read tonight incase Ive missed anything - work first mores the pity. carol
