Park is Scottish and Parkes English. Both are found in Ireland but are not native Irish names. D'Arcy is of French origin (Arcis - fortress dweller). Occasionally it can be a variant of the Irish name O'Dorchaudhe (Descendant of the dark one) but likely very rare. Since Ireland was invaded by the Anglo-Normans and the English in past centuries many of their names became common. ----- Original Message ----- From: "ppaws" <ppaws@netnet.net> To: "Irish" <NIR-DOWN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 29, 2008 10:41 AM Subject: [NIR-DOWN] PARKS DARCY > Can anyone tell me if PARKS and DARCY are common Irish Names? > Thanks, > Pat > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > NIR-DOWN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message
