Hi Fiona Thanks for the welcome- and pointing me to those sites. Ive been devouring them for the past couple of days since I found the Hugh baptism. So many Roneys!- and many called Hugh:) Interestingly theres a William Roney born circa 1787 Co Down who turns up in Workington Cumberland England around the same time as my Hugh. Im wondering if they were related (both miners) and whether this William is this one I found baptised 1787 -sounds like they were quite close to each other. I know Im clutching at straws but its all very interesting all the same. It's great that you have found such an old baptism record. If you do go to Down, let me know and I will give some pointers re: trips to PRONI/GRONI etc. There are also some wonderful volunteers on the LIST that you might want to meet up with while you are there.
