I think what is being discussed is the difference between Parish (Church) records and Registration records. The information given in Parish records isn't necessarily the same given in Registration records. I have seen numerous pages of Registration records and only the mother's name is given with the child registered under her name. Some of the entries have been children born in the Poor House and registered by the Poor House official. In all instances though, the child was registered with the mother's maiden name. How the were all baptised I wouldn't know.
