Dear Listers, I would like some help trying to find information on my McBRIDE & McCUTCHEON family from County Down Northern Ireland. There names & what I know so far are; THOMAS McBRIDE b c1835 in North Down Northern Ireland. Father THOMAS McBRIDE married 21 January 1862 at Millisle & Ballycopeland Co Down d 20 March 1908 at farm in Portavo Donaghadee Co Down age 73 Wife; CATHERINE McCUTCHEON b c 1835 in North Down Northern Ireland. Father HUGH McCUTCHEON d 14 May 1925 at farm Portavo Donaghadee Co Down I am trying to find their births & who there mothers were. Also any brothers & sisters they had. A book has been published concerning Portavo in 2003 and reviewed in North Irish Roots, the magazine put out by the North of Ireland Family History Society: Portavo: An Irish Townland and its Peoples Part One. Earliest times to 1844. By Peter Carr. Published 2003 by the White Row Pres, 135 Cumberland Rd., Dundonald, Belfast BT16 2BB Price 18 Pounds. The early 18th. C Parish Register for Donaghadee has been compiled by a Mrs Duguid in two volumes and is held at PRONI. I don't have the exact reference number at hand but perhaps they would send you a copy or pay a member of the Ulster Historical Society to photocopy it or at least look up the names for a fee. Whether Peter Carr gives information on your ancestors I can't say but the book was very well reviewed. It might be available at booksulster.com or one of the many used book sellers.
