    1. [NIR-DOWN] re Orangemen Roney Cumberland etc
    2. Hi Like Michael I have that great book Culture, Conflict and Migration: The Irish in Victorian Cumbria- but like him I can not locate it- recommended. Ive skimmed through Cleator Moor Revealed and can find no mention of any Roneys but thought Id list names just incase anyone has an interest- nothing says they were Irish but they may be recognised. April 1871 Murphy Riots William Murphy- an Irishman who travelled England giving lectures that Im gathering were anti catholic- I stand to be corrected here. Arrests in and around Cleator moor were Hugh McGEE 21 Patrick DOYLE 23 Dennis DOYLE 23 Patrick MURRAY 35 James BELTON 38 Patrick MCGEE 26 James MCGEE 27 Lawrence DORAN- a grocer from Whitehaven Thomas MORGAN Jerimiah BRAYDON Francis MORGAN Patrick CONNER They got 12 months hard labour- apart from James BELTON and Patrick MCGEE who got 3 months hard labour. Hope someone recognises someone here(and is pleased to see them), on reflection i think I will look them up on census returns to see where they came from- may end up coming from areas Im interested in- sorry im thinking aloud! Carol
