I am hoping to get an opinion on something..especially all of you who are our Down History experts..and may have other info on the Needhams.. I am trying to find out about General Needham (around 1806)... ..I wonder if he could have been involved with the smuggling going on...I know this was on a large scale...and if it were just the locals involved and all knew about it, it seems it could have been stopped..and yet it when on..as if they had some help at the top... ..... in the Kilmorey Papers, the Postmaster of Ireland seems to insinuate something regarding the smuggling there..... read these two pages: http://www.proni.gov.uk/introduction_kilmorey_d2638-2.pdf am I reading more into this?
