Hi A few days ago we had a discussion about membership of Orange Lodges and I said I would let you know when I had a reply, so here goes: Dear Linda, Thank you for your recent enquiry. I am afraid that we do not have a centralized database of members and so rely on the lodge number of the individual to progress a manual search. There are currently almost 1200 Orange Lodges in Ireland , so you can imagine the scale of the search without a number. The name Egremont does not ring any bells, but it could be a local name from anywhere in Ireland . The Orange Order also existed (still does) in England , where areas such as Preston, Bolton, Manchester , Liverpool were strong centres. If you wish to contact the Grand Secretary of England his details are; davidtaggart3@hotmail.com I am sorry I cannot offer more help at this stage, but if a lodge number does turn up it would be a major boon. You could also find it on certificates which James would have had. Best of luck in your quest, David Hume Dr. David Hume MBE Director of Services Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland Schomberg House 368 Cregagh Road, Belfast, BT6 9EY, Northern Ireland I then emailed him and asked if I could reproduce his reply on various sites and here is his email: Linda, I am happy to have this reply reproduced on the e-mailing lists – but please tell people to be patient if enquiring of us! Regards David Regards Lin
