    3. I have a dear friend who is 94 years old and he recently asked me if I could unearth anything about his Ulster roots. He has the vaguest of family stories to go on. I have assembled what I could find out from him beneath. If anyone recognizes anything that might fit, he would be beyond thrilled. Sharon Oddie Brown Roberts Creek, BC, Canada History Project: http://www.thesilverbowl.com/ Family Tree: http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=silverbowl George WHITE (Abt 1840-1910) George WHITE was probably born according to oral memory about 1840 (this would be before most records are readily available, although age at death should provide a reasonable time frame if not an accurate date). As a young man, he worked on an "Englishman's" farm in Ulster. His profession was variously given as "blacksmith" or "butcher". Oral family stories say he ran away with the "bosses" daughter (this may have been a foreman of some sort, rather than the owner of the land). At the age of 18-20, he emigrated to Ontario, possibly out of Belfast. He died in 1910. NOTE: George White (no middle name) was recorded in the BC Archives site and he died 12/18 1912, age recorded as 74 (Therefore b. abt 1838). These dates are likely the more realistic dates. Silas Franklin WHITE (abt 1861-1929) Silas Franklin WHITE was the son of George WHITE and an unnamed mother. He was born about 1861, possibly on board the ship. It is possible that his parents were as yet unmarried. His mother died in Ottawa in 1867 (NOTE: It is often possible to get a maiden name from a death certificate). Silas married secondly and there were more children from that union, one of whom "Mattie" was born in Canada. Silas spent a lot of time in USA touring as a "strongman". NOTE: Silas Franklin White died 11/10 1929, age recorded as 65 (therefore born about 1864). This death date is probably the more realistic one.
