Would anyone give me some ideas as to why this was so...perhaps family squabbling? The executrix was an ANNA CARSE otherwise ORR wife of JAMES CARSE of Raffery Killinchy Co Down farmer. Anna and James are not known to me...would anyone on the list be researching this couple. Many thanks. Maureen

    3. I have the same scenario with my gg grandfather. I think that they (the family) being country folk, didn't bother with such things until it was absolutely necessary, i.e. until his son (my g.grandfather) died. That's all I can suggest. 3. Hello Maureen: I would have to agree with Rosemary about countryfolk postponing such unusual tasks. I spent days ging through all the McKenny wills in the probate court records at the PRONI several times over the years and noticed that if the value of the estate was minimal, there was usually a delay in proving the will. Or there were simialr delays in some cases were it appeared that the deceased died without children, husband, etc. and the executor wasn't a direct family memeber. Having said that, there was one case of a substantial estate where one of the heirs filed a dispute that required some time to resolve. If you look at the will calendar on line at the PRONI (http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/search_the_archives/will_calendars/wills_search.htm), it will give you the value of the estate and that might give you a clue.
