Sunday Independent May 6 1945 Mr William McIlroy, K.C. S. G. J.P., who died at his residence, Hilden Cottage, Lisburn, was a well known figure in Northern Ireland linen circles, and was the last survivor of his family. Born of Irish parents iat Courtral, Belgium, where his father was in the flax trade, he went to Lisburn as a boy in 1875 and was educated at St Malachy's College. From being an apprentice at Messrs. Barbour and Sons, he became manager. He retired in 1933. He traveled extensively and spoke several languages. He built a Catholic Church at Clanvaraghan Co Down and endowed two bursaries for church students in St Malachy's College, Belfast.
