I have just uploaded the revised maps for Down in my Interactive Administrative District map of Ireland <http://ireland.kiwicelts.com/irishMap/ireMap.html>. The changes include: - a complete (corrected) townland database showing the townlands for each parish as defined in both the 1851 Census and the Griffith Valuation (as well as including all PLUs, Baronies, Councils, RC Parishes and Civil Parishes as defined in 1851 and 1861) - maps of all Civil Parishes showing both the 1851 and Griffith (ie ca 1861) versions as well as some other districts The changes which occurred between 1851 and (ca) 1861 were very extensive, particularly in the Upper and Lower Lecale Baronies and the 1851 and Griffith versions of the Parish maps are plotted in different colours and so you can easily see the differences. I have spent considerable time checking, but given the number of database entries (about 14,000) I may have missed some errors - please let me know if you spot any. It is very unlikely that I will ever get around to mapping all townlands here, however in other counties people interested in particular areas are creating the Townland maps. If you are interested in doing this let me know. You will need access to Google Earth, have lots of memory (1Gb but preferably 2Gb of RAM not hard disk), an eye for detail and lots of patience, but it isn't terribly hard. And please keep clicking on the Adverts - it is harmless, only costs if you decide to purchase something and assists and encourages me to do more to the site!
