    3. Owen, Firstly it sometimes depends on which State in Australia your person died in ....from my own research I've found the NSW certificates give the most information. Having said that.....it will also depend on the person giving the information at the time of death, on how much they knew of the deceased. The NSW death certificates give the following information. Name: Date of Death: Place: Occupation: Sex: Age: Conjugal Status: Place of Birth: Time in the Australian Colonies: Father: Occupation: Mother: Place of Marriage: Age at Marriage: Name of Spouse: Children of Marriage: Informant: Cause of Death: Length of Illness: Medical Attendant: Date Last Seen: Date of Burial: Place of Burial: Minister & Religion: Undertaker: Witnesses: Where registered: As you can imagine when ALL of the fields are completed then you have an abundance of information. But as I mentioned it will depend on what the informant knows....if they didn't know when asked the field was left blank or "Unknown" entered. No, you cannot search the indexes on place of birth.....probably the majority of them will only have Ireland as place of birth....no town/city/area. If you go to http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/search.htm you can search the indexes for NSW online....if you require further help re these indexes contact me offlist. Kate
