Hi Would anyone know what a Check Clerk was on a Public Works relief Committee c 1847 Also a Commission Agent c 1860 Regards Sandra
The Check clerk was a record keeper: Names of those employed on famine relief, days worked, and wages due. I have copies of such records. Not sure about commission agent. Sandra If someone was responsible for verifying the hours worked, and payment based on this information, especially related to famine relief, and someone suspected you were being economical with the truth it seems very evident to me that there could be an element of danger in this job.
