Irish World News from Ireland Apr 25 1903 The funeral of the late PATRICK CAUGHEY of Newcastle took place on March 26. The Family of the deceased was one of the oldest and most respected in Newcastle. Having emigrated to Australia in the "early fifties" he was very successful in the goldfields and amassed a fortune, which unfortunately was lost on his returning home in the wreck of the General Grant. To the readers of the Wide World Magazine the hardships which he, with other survivors, endured on the Auckland Islands for two years are well known. He was a man of culture and literary tastes, refined and courteous and a sterling Irishman. The chief mourners were: Thomas Fegan, brother-in-law; John, Hugh, James and Harry Fegan, nephews; William Kennedy brother in law; Edward Kennedy, nephew.
