Hi Nan Looking at my various McCartan docs, I found that I already had this couple for 1911 and they were both born in Kilkeel, which would fit with him returning to Aughnahoory after his retirement. I also found this birth on IGI : MARK MACARTAN Birth: 26 SEP 1867, Down, Ireland Father: JOHN MACARTAN Mother: MARGARET ANN KENNAN Which would fit with the names of his eldest children. Interestingly they are not listed in my McCartans in Kilkeel parish (nor Lr Mourne) but again, there were loads of people missing from those records!
