Hello John, I called with the registrar's office today, and this is what they have: Hugh McGivern is buried in Section 6, grave 177. He was a blacksmith, and was living in Belfast at time of death. Nothing more regards the address. There are four others in the grave, but they only have the names of one. Elizabeth McGivern, bur 10 June 1902 others buried on 22 May 1889, 3 January 1890, and 21 November 1891. Their records start in 1880, but the earlier ones are at present with PRONI (Public Record Office Northern Ireland). They will be returned to them when PRONI have finished whatever they are doing to them. I think they are being digitised. She suggests that these registers may have more details on the three unknown people. I have looked on site, and there is NO headstone. There is no marker of any description. The only way to find it is by looking at the grave next to it, people called Mercer, which has a marker and the stonemason has engraved the location on the side, 6-178. I will see what I can find in PRONI, and the NoIFHS, but it will probably be next week before I can manage it. When are you planning to visit here? If I am here I may be able to take you to the grave. Regards, David By the way, where are you in Canada?
Hello David, Thanks again for your help. I was just looking through my info and found the death notice for Hugh McGivern which states that he passed away at Ballyalicock which was just outside of Newtownards. It is interesting that the official records state that he was in Belfast. Thanks again. David & Louise I am sure that this cemetery has had its MI's listed and published - I think by NoIFHS - but I can't recall how far they come to. I visited that Cemetery in 2008, looking for Boyd families, but you will need to go to the Ards Council Office first to get an and idea where Section 6 is and where that grave might be.
