    3. Portland Guardian (Victoria) June 17 1920 Eve Ed p 2 DEATH OF AN OLD PIONEER. After a lingering illness, extending over twelve months, Mr T. G. Henry,father of Mr T. E. C. Henry, TownClerk of the Borough of Portland, passedaway on Wednesday morning, at theage of 85 years. Deceased was one ofthe old pioneers of the district. Bornat Kilkeel, County Down, Ireland, in 1834, he came out to this country whenonly 19 years of age. He landed atMelbourne in 1853, proceeding to thegoldfields near Bendigo, where he metwith indifferent success. He afterwardsadopted a scholastic career, and afteracting as private tutor and coach, finallyjoined the Education department, andas head teacher came to Heywoodschool in 1870. Six years afterwards heproceeded to Mumbannar, near Dart-moor, where he continued teachinguntil he resigned in 1888. Adoptingpastoral pursuits, he remained in thatlocality until 1906, when he took up hisresidence in Portland, and remained hereever since, with the exception of aboutone year, during which he re-visited hisbirthplace. He married a daughter ofthe late Mr Edward Tatham, of Doncas-ter, in 1858, and of his family of five,two daughters and a son survive him.The remains of the late Mrs Henry, whodied at Mount Gambier in 1888, wereinterred at that place, and this spot willalso be the last resting-place of thedeceased, the funeral taking place at10 a.m. on Saturday.
