Hello to you all from a very sad New Zealand. We live quite a distance away so we have no damage here, but yesterday we just couldn't believe the damaged buildings and loss of life in Christchurch. We know a lot of people there and we have been so anxious for them. Our daughter is on a lecture tour and we were so pleased to hear she had moved on to Dunedin yesterday morning but we think our Doctor was staying at a Christchurch hotel. Last night the radio announcer was relaying messages from distraught families who couldn't find their loved ones, while all night the flattened buildings were being searched for more victims. Happily there were quite a number found to be alive, but still there are cries from those who are trapped. There have had to be amputations in order to free some people but at least they are still alive - sadly there are a lot of people missing. There are a large number of after-shocks, some as high as 4.7.
