My Thomas Moffat ws married in County Down, Magheralin parish to Jane Pickering abt. 1814. I have yet to discover a son born to them named Thomas. My Thomas was supposedly born in Scotland. If going by Scottish naming patterns, wouldn't there have most likely been a son born named Thomas? I have a son William and Wesly and possibly John and a daughter Charlotte. William may have been named after the mother's father William PIckering. -----Original Message----- From: Moira Draper Sent: Wednesday, February 09, 2011 10:37 PM To: nir-down@rootsweb.com Subject: [NIR-DOWN] William MOFFAT I have a real brick wall with this Moffett family who possibly lived in county Down. The only real lead I have is a record of William's son's Marriage as follows: "William MOFFAT -m- Agness O'NEILL on 26 November 1858 at Scarva, Down, Ireland. The Groom was listed as living at Terryhoogan but they later returned to Scotland. Groom's Father - William MOFFAT, Mason". I am unsure where he lives as there is no place of residence given - I don't know if he lived In County Down, or even Ireland. I have copied this information from "Ireland Marriages" 1916-1898" Best wishes from Moira in New Zealand. -------------------------------------------------- 433 list members as of 1 Feb 2011.
