Irish Times Sat June 22 1878 The robbery of £148 from a Cattle-dealer in Newry. At the Newry Petty Sessions two women named Meehan and Kane, alias, Evans were put forward in custody, charged with stealing £148 from the person of cattle-dealer named John Doran, residing near Castlewellan. On the 30th ult Mr Smith, a pawnbroker from Belfst, was examined, and proved to Kane pawning the petticoat in which acting ConstableCocke, detective of Belfast, found £53 of the money. There being no evidence against Meehan she was discharged, and the case against Kane, alias Evans, was postponed.
