Mike I may have this info for you still working on it. Will try & get it to you this weekend. -----Original Message----- From: boyd-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:boyd-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Mike Boyd Sent: Friday, March 25, 2011 1:35 AM To: nir-down@rootsweb.com; irl-antrim-L@rootsweb.com; boyd@rootsweb.com Subject: [BOYD] John Boyd of Parish of Shankill, Co Armagh & Jane Bell of Kilmore Townland, Par. of Shankill, Co Down According to Chapter V, The Boyd and Bell Families, pp 173- 202, John Boyd and Jane Bell were married at the Quaker meeting house in Lurgan on 28 January 1708. Their marriage certificate states that both John and Jane are residents of the Parish of Shankill. Three-fourth of this parish (7.7 square miles), including the town of Lurgan, is in County Armagh; the remainder (2.6) square miles) is in the County Down. The boundaries of County Down are such that a small finger, about three-fourth of a mile wide, juts westward to the shore of Lough Neagh between Armagh and Antrim. This small strip of land, which comprises the townland of Kilmore, falls within the Parish of Shankill. John Boyd lived in the County Armagh section of this parish, the Bells within the small County Down portion. John Boyd was estimated to have been born about 1685, but no location or parents were recorded for him. Unfortunately, the marriage certificate does not give the names of the groom's or bride's parents. It is suspected that Elizabeth Boid, as the name is spelled in the first line, is John Boyd's mother, and Tamar Boid a sister, aunty, or other close relative. John's father, whose name has not been ascertained, may have been deceased because no male Boyd signed the certificate as a witness to the ceremony. Ann Bell's parents were William Bell and his wife names is just given as Ann - with no surname. Jane Bell is listed as the first daughter of William and Ann Bell and being born in the parish Aghagallan, County Antrim, while the 2 brothers and fifth daughter are all recorded as being born at Killmore. With three daughters not being listed. A second Bell family of Simon Bell and his wife Ann Crookes are listed as being in Killmore townland. This Simon was Jane Bell's uncle and brother of William Bell. I am looking to see if any of the Bell families of Kilmore Townland, Parish of Shankill, County Down, may know whom John Boyd's parents were or any details on his and Jane Bell's family.
