    2. Christina Finn Hunt
    3. We have just added some Royal Irish Constabulary records for men who were native to County Down. The dates are from January 1853-October 1853. So, the men were probably born in the early 1830's. Just so you will know what you are looking at, the RIC records include the date a man joined, his age and height. (We skip the height, but I can send the page if you find anyone) If he was married when he joined and the marriage date if he married after joining. It also gives the birth county for the wife. (Men did not serve in their home counties and seemed to get moved if they married.) The records show where the man was stationed. This is the part of the information that we are compiling. To view this set go to: http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ Click on DOWN and then MILITARY & CONSTABULARY Christina IGP-Archives ===============================

    3. The new spam filters are complicating life for me. It seems that if I put certain links into an email, then my emails have only something like a 50/50 chance of arriving. I don't know why, but this is how it is. Maybe it is because I live in The Gumboot Nation aka Roberts Creek. Unfortunately, it means that in the future, if you want to get to my blogs, then I have to send you there via my web page. The link for that is beneath. It seems that the spam filters don't have a hernia over that one. I have just posted a piece on my blog called "The Tip of the Iceberg". In it, I talk about some of what I have learned in my decade of doing this research. I also have a link to the latest piece of research that I have posted on my web site earlier today. The piece that I have just posted contains a great swat of the relationships between dozens of family members who found themselves in Hong Kong, South Africa, Ceylon, India and what have you in the 19^th century. Most of them came from England, some from Ireland and Scotland, and some managed to boggle me by arranging their lives such that they came from all three (ARBUTHNOT would be a good example). I have also posted another obituary that is quite lengthy and descriptive for George Mildmay DARE. As always, I have annotated it so it is less confusing about who is who. I have also posted the notes he wrote about his family before he died in 1907, similarly annotated by The Moi. The links to these two piece can be found at the end of my blog. 1. [NIR-DOWN] John Boyd of Parish of Shankill, Co Armagh & Jane Bell of Kilmore Townland, Par. of Shankill, Co Down
    2. Mike Boyd
    3. According to Chapter V, The Boyd and Bell Families, pp 173- 202, John Boyd and Jane Bell were married at the Quaker meeting house in Lurgan on 28 January 1708. Their marriage certificate states that both John and Jane are residents of the Parish of Shankill. Three-fourth of this parish (7.7 square miles), including the town of Lurgan, is in County Armagh; the remainder (2.6) square miles) is in the County Down. The boundaries of County Down are such that a small finger, about three-fourth of a mile wide, juts westward to the shore of Lough Neagh between Armagh and Antrim. This small strip of land, which comprises the townland of Kilmore, falls within the Parish of Shankill. John Boyd lived in the County Armagh section of this parish, the Bells within the small County Down portion. John Boyd was estimated to have been born about 1685, but no location or parents were recorded for him. Unfortunately, the marriage certificate does not give the names of the groom's or bride's parents. It is suspected that Elizabeth Boid, as the name is spelled in the first line, is John Boyd's mother, and Tamar Boid a sister, aunty, or other close relative. John's father, whose name has not been ascertained, may have been deceased because no male Boyd signed the certificate as a witness to the ceremony. Ann Bell's parents were William Bell and his wife names is just given as Ann - with no surname. Jane Bell is listed as the first daughter of William and Ann Bell and being born in the parish Aghagallan, County Antrim, while the 2 brothers and fifth daughter are all recorded as being born at Killmore. With three daughters not being listed. A second Bell family of Simon Bell and his wife Ann Crookes are listed as being in Killmore townland. This Simon was Jane Bell's uncle and brother of William Bell. I am looking to see if any of the Bell families of Kilmore Townland, Parish of Shankill, County Down, may know whom John Boyd's parents were or any details on his and Jane Bell's family. Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS
