    3. Hope this helps someone! Irish World Jan 05 1901 News from Ireland On Nov. 30 the remains of MRS CRAWFORD, relict of the late HUGH CRAWFORD, Kankakee County, Montana, U.S.A. were removed for interment in Ballykinlar Cemetery. The deceased spent many years in America. On the decease of her husband nine years ago she returned to Ireland to spend the remaining of her days with her Brother, Mr Robert Marmion, Rathmullan, the only surviving member of the family. The cortege testified in a marked degree the wide popularity in which the deceased was held. The chief mourners were: Robert Marmion, brother; Rev James O'Laverty, Holywood; Edward Laverty, Carban; Bernard Veney, Rossglass; Edward James McMullan, Downpatrick; Patrick Veney, Rossglass, cousins. Among the clergy present were: Rev J.J. O'Hara, Dundrum; Rev B. Fajloona, Dundrum; Rev J.J. Deacon, incumbent, Rathmullan. Among the laity present were: John Denvir, Downpatrick; Bernard Laverty, Castlescreen; James Jellie, Glovett; William Laverty, Ballynewport; John Hanna, Clanmaghery; Joseph Fitzpatrick, Scollockstwon; Patrick Curran, John Watterson, Edward Sharvin, Edward Gribben, Thomas Cassidy, James Neill, of of Scollockstown; Edward Hanna, Lissold; Robert Fitzpatrick, Avondale House, Ballylucas; William Hutton, Leggamaddy; Henry McGarry, Ballynewport; Note: I didn't find a Hugh Crawford in the US census in Montana prior to 1900. I wonder if this lady and her husband were previously in Wyoming. There was a Lillie Crawford born Ireland living with a Hugh Crawford born Scotland in Wyoming in 1880.

    1. [NIR-DOWN] New material added to The Silver Bowl site
    2. Sharon Oddie Brown
    3. I have just transcribed, annotated and posted another 40 or so pages worth of deeds on my web site - thanks to the help of others. Although, you can find them by going directly to the NEW section of my website, I suggest starting by reading the piece on my blog about doing them. This piece will connect you with other relevant links. These new documents focus on COULTER and DICKIE families living near Carrickastuck in Co. Louth in the mid 1700s to mid 1800s. There are dozens of other names mentioned as well, and where their particulars are known to me, I have added them into the footnotes. The people mentioned in these documents include emigrants to America, as well as family and business connections of family in Monaghan, Armagh, Down, Louth, Antrim and Dublin. There may be other counties as well. The more I do, the more I learn. The blog about doing them can be found at: http://sharonoddiebrown.blogspot.com/2011/06/have-trod-have-trod.html If you just want to cut to the chase, they are listed beside the dates June 25th & 26th, 2011 at: http://www.thesilverbowl.com/misc/whatsnew.htm I have also updated my Rootsweb tree to include new information gained from doing this work. SEE: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=silverbowl As always, if I have made any mistakes, no matter how trivial, or if you can add to the footnotes, then please let me know. I keep fixing things up as I go, and hopefully a year from now I will dig in and do a really good cleanup of the whole site. In the meantime, I will keep adding to it - like Topsy. -- Sharon Oddie Brown, Roberts Creek, BC, Canada. History Project: www.thesilverbowl.com

    3. Richard There was this Boyd family from the mid 1600's at Glastry townland. O2 David Boyd, b / /163x ( ), d / /1694 ( ), bu , m / /165x (church, town, county, etc), Margaret Kennedy, dau of and (nee ) Kennedy, b / /163x ( ), d / /16xx ( ), bu , and had issue:- [Lived: of Glastry, County Down, Ireland ] This David Boyd is the grandson of Colonel David Boyd, of Tourgill, a natural son of the fifth Lord Boyd. Col Boyd was "given" 1,000 acres in the Parish of Grey Abbey by Sir Hugh Montgomery - his 5 ot 6th cousin - in 1606. MY UNDERSTANDING from the maps of the Montgomery and Hamilton Lands that Glastry was part of the Hamilton lands in County down. (I have yet to get time to reserch if this Hamilton was part of Hamiltons that married into various Boyd families. I think his father or grandfather was the Minister at Dunlop in Ayrshire.) However, I am not sure how long this Boyd family had this land in Glastry. I do know that some from this area are buried at Ballyhalbert C of I Cemetery and are outlined in Volume 15 of County Down Gravestone Inscriptions pub. by the Ulster Historical Foundation in Belfast. So you may wish to see if there are any Orr's and Reids listed in this publication. I assume that your family is Presbyterian. From memory when I visited the Presbyterian Church at Glastry in 2008, it did not start to bury people until the early 1700's or mid 1700's. And I am not sure which Volume of these MI Volumes that Glastry might be in. Hopefully, it will give you some Orr's and Reids to work into your tree. 3. Richard What year did Jamieson and Ruth (Orr) Reid marry? If it was pre 1861, you could read this as they having come from the "same" area of north of Ireland. Perhaps even the same Church. If they married in Canada, it may mean that they came from the same general area of Ireland - perhaps the same County. I know of an Orr family that lived near Comber in the mid 1600's, as one brother married a Miss Boyd. Both these names are Common Ayrshire names, so both families MAY HAVE COME FROM AYRSHIRE in Scotland. 3. Richard, The book, "Ulster Pedigrees. Descendants, in many lines of James Orr and Janet McClement Who Emigrated from Scotland to Northern Ireland ca 1607" lists several Orr-Reid marriages. However the only Orr marriage which has a "Ruth" in it is the marriage of Alexander Orr to a Ruth Carr. No progeny given. A brother of Alexander Orr, John Orr 4th of Ballywilliam married a Margaret Reid. Alexander and John were sons of John Orr 3rd and Mary Neilson. Unfortunately the dates are not spelled out in this case but it appears that John Orr 3rd would have probably have been born in the 1760s. The locale was generally County Down. If you are doing Orr genealogy you undoubtedly are familiar with this book. It is a treasure trove of information not only of Orrs but many, many Scots-Irish families who emigrated from Scotland to Ireland after 1607. I neither want to read to much into the line nor gloss over it. I am hoping it indicates that both the Orr and Reid families remained in close proximity to the first family members from Scotland as well as indicating the ancestors came at a much earlier time not just a generation or two. Am I reading too much into this? Wesley J. Reid, M. D. Another of the sterling citizens and representative physicians contributed to Detroit by the neighboring Canadian province of Ontario is Dr. Wesley John Reid, who was born at Goderich, Huron county, that province, on the 18th of December, 1875, and who is a son of Jamieson and Ruth (Orr) Reid, both of whom were born in the north of Ireland, to which section of the Emerald Isle their ancestors removed from Scotland in an early day. 3. Hi Nan, Thank you for this. There is still at least one Doran, a Patrick, living in Ballyplunt, a retired farmer. There are a number of other Doran families, all related, living close by in Ballylucas. Joseph Fitzpatrick lived in the small clachan of Scollockstown (Scollogstown on the maps) which is in Rathmullan Upper townland. He had a son who was known as "Jimmie Joe" who was very friendly with my father. They were all farmers. The Dorans, John, Paddy and Michael, Jimmie Joe Fitzpatrick, Teddy Sharvin and my father, John, all worked together for many years helping each other out with their farmwork. Only Paddy and Michael Doran remain of that group. Regards, Billy.
