Hello Wendy, Thank you kindly for your quick response. I will now see what I can find that might help my searching. The journal to which I refer is a summary of the 26th report of the Deputy Keeper of Public Records, and has Marriage Licence Bonds, Wills and 'I' - whatever that is - listed in the appendix, back to 1714 at least. I am looking for info in the volume that is referred to in the appendix. Check the website, put in your surname, townland, etc. and see what you get! BRICKWALL - County Down to Pennsylvania - Graham, Morrow and Maxwell - 1828 to 1830 John and Ann (Morrow) Graham, brought the family to Patton Township (now Monroeville) in Allegheny County in Western PA from County Down in 1828. Ann and John came to Pennsylvania in 1828 and settled near Pittsburgh. They brought with them four sons (William, Christopher, James and John) and their families. They were joined two years later by their daughter Agnes and her husband Hugh Graham. Hugh Maxwell (1800-1860) married Agnes Graham (1795-1870) in County Down on October 9, 1820. They came to Pennsylvania in 1830. All of the above are buried at Crossroads Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Monroeville PA. I cannot establish ancestors of John Graham, Ann Morrow Graham or Hugh Maxwell. If you go to the Rops Davies web site and look under churches you will find information on the Rathfriland/Drumgath churches and graveyards. Assuming the Morrows were Protestant they are likely buried in one of the Presbyterian graveyards. The Church of Ireland (St. John's) does not seem to have a graveyard. At <irishgenealogy.ie> there is a pay-for-view arrangement wherein yo give the surname and hope you find the right ones. I tried this web site and could not get it to work but it may be down for repairs. Alternatively you could pay a researcher to look up the burials or try and get a copy of the gravestone inscriptions if printed by the Ulster Historical Foundation. However these mostly just go up to the turn of the last century. You might try <bt.com> and see if there are still Waddells listed in Rathriland or surrounding area. I have a copy of North Irish Roots Vol. 8 No. 2 which has an article on the Waddells in Ulster. If it is of interest send me your postal address and I will send you a photocopy. Hi, Responding to the name of McBurney in the subject line I thought it worthwhile to post the branch of my family tree which includes this Co Down name. Unfortunately I know very little about it as yet, as can be seen, but I have a trip to the GRO Belfast planned for June this year when I hope to be able to fill in the gaps. If anyone sees any connection please get in touch. I suppose that it is possible that people in generation 5 might still be around. For example in the published 2005 electoral roll I see one with the same name as Hamilton Edgar & Oswald Creighton living in Dromore. Perhaps just a coincidence or perhaps worth a letter to them. Hugh, It is my understanding that Waddell MORROW [son of George MORROW] died 17th NOV 1892 at age 58, in the District of Rathfriland in the Superintendent Registrar's District of Newry in the County of Down. for me, I typed in the surname, and this was one of the 'hits'. If your name isn't in there, it wouldn't turn up. If you have 200 hits by your name, you might be able to narrow it down by typing in key words : "Appendix to Twenty-Sixth Report" Wendy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Linda Holley" <ljholley@comcast.net> To: <nir-down@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 06, 2008 6:54 PM Subject: Re: [NIR-DOWN] Parliamentary Papers on Ireland 1801 - 1922 > How am I able to find the "26th report of the Deputy Keeper of Public > Records"? Also, if there is a name in this appendix, does this mean that there is a book somewhere with more info? R. CARR (Killyleagh) 1864 The story of the Hamiltons of Killyleagh is rather tangled. Your Archibald Hamilton Rowan Carr was likely named after the famous Irish patriot but it is unclear if he was related to the Hamiltons of Killyleagh Castle. The patriot was the son of Gawin Hamilton who came from a famous Scottish family. Rowan was the name of his paternal grandfather, Sir James Hamilton, Viscount Clandeboye. Archibald Hamilton Rowan Carr was listed as a farmer at The Course, Killyleagh and listed on a railway prospectus in 1861.. Thomas Ringland born Feb.4 1815 married Christian Carr b. July 19 1817. He died Sept 30, 1872 and she d. Feb. 6 1890. Arhibald Hamilton Rowan Carr and James Carr, Bank Manager of Belfast by their oaths proves the will of Thomas Ringland in 1872 and reproved in 1873. Thomas Ringland, who originally was from Killyleagh, born Feb.4 1815, was a bank director in Carrickfegus and died in Liverpool. His widow Christian, lived at Cultra, Holwood and her will was proved by James Carr of Belfast, bank director, and William Ringland, bank clerk of Larne, Co. Antrim. The Ringlands were an old Killyleagh family and some were farmers, surgeons and businessmen. James Ringland of Toy was possibly a friend of the Carr family both being farmers. There are several Carr gravestones in Killyleagh Presbyterian graveyard. The earliest if for Nataneal Carr of Maymore d. Dec. 1832 aged 54. Widow Catherine (LOWRY) d. Nov 1874. John Carr Esq. d. Dec. 1865 aged 47. ( He had a flax spinning factory) His wife Eliza d. Dec. 1895. There was also a Joseph Carr of Cocean who d. Nov 11 1911. Also his widow Eliza who d. 1895 in Queen's Elms, Belfast. Her daughter Johnena, spinster, was sole executrix. James Carr of Belfast, born Killyleagh, b. June 1829 d. Belfast Sept. 1916. Widow, Frances MULLOCK, d. Aug.1903. The 1843 Commercial Directory for Killyleagh does not list any Carrs and presumably they were still farmers. Andrew Ringland is listed as a Butter and Grain Merchant . Dawson Rowan Hamilton is listed at Killyleagh Castle and T.K. Lowry is a Barrister-at law of Ballytrim House. The 1886 Killyleagh Directory listed Joseph Carr, Corporation, S.B. Ringland at Ballytrim House, Killyleagh, and John Ringland at Cluntagh. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Darcy5" <darcy5@eircom.net> To: <nir-down@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 27, 2008 7:27 AM Subject: [NIR-DOWN] Archibald H. The gravestone inscriptions printed by the Ulster Historical Foundation only go up to about 1900 so the ones you seek would not be listed even thought they could be buried at Comber or elsewhere. There is a Waddell gravestone at Comber: WADDELL 1885. Erected by Jane Wadell as a memorial to her brother Robert Rollo Gillespie Waddell, also the other members of the family. Also their niece Dorothea MONTGOMERY who d. Nov. 8 1918. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roxanne Neel" <roxanne4mastiffs@verizon.net> To: <nir-down@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 06, 2008 9:15 AM Subject: Re: [NIR-DOWN] Morrow/McBurney,McBiernie,McBernie > Hugh, > Is Comber Graveyard any where near Rathfriland?
