    3. Hello Bev, Do you have any other information on your branch, such as dates of emigration, etc? My own branch moved over to northern england in the 1890s and eventually settled in Durham; my own research points to an ancestry based in burrenreagh, kilcoo. I have some pointers for further research from the experts on this list but up 'til now have not followed them. Peter Bev wrote: > Seeking any information on the McGuinness family in Co. Down. The HAMPTON, HAMITON, PHAIR & FINLAY families, are my direct lines, however, there are also , from Nth Ireland, ENGLISH, THOMPSON, McCONAGHTY & McCABE names who link to my own families. 3. Otago is a region in the South Island. And includes North Otago (oamaru area) Central Otago (Wanaka, Alexandra etc)and of course Dunedin - key city in Otago Try Googling one of the towns/cities above to get an idea of location. There is an Ethel Ranger (aged 18) recorded as being buried in Southern Dunedin General cemetery in the Presbyterian section in 1907. Perhaps she is the sister of William James Ranger. Neither Ethelinda Harrison/Ranger or William James Ranger appear in the NZ Burial Locator. There marriage is noted in both NZSG version 4 and the NZ Marriages index. You may want to try the NZSG Otago branch for more help. 3. Hello Ann, When we had Provinces, Otago was down at the South East corner of the South Island of New Zealand. Dunedin is the main city, used to be known as the Edinburgh of the South, originally settled by a large number of Scots. The area is still there, of course, but, for some reason they are now not called Provinces. I was looking for a Finlay / Ranger connection, which was how I noticed the name. 3. Thanks so much, I checked out the webpage and found no Morrows. By all intents and purposes the Morrows where coal miners. I am sure there could be other occupations that were woven in there. Unfortunately I know very little about it as yet, as can be seen, but I have a trip to the GRO Belfast planned for June this year when I hope to be able to fill in the gaps. If anyone sees any connection please get in touch. I suppose that it is possible that people in generation 5 might still be around. For example in the published 2005 electoral roll I see one with the same name as Hamilton Edgar & Oswald Creighton living in Dromore. Perhaps just a coincidence or perhaps worth a letter to them. Any views about writing to possible descendants identified that way?
