He married (2) JANE MOORE 02 Sep 1799 in Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania1, daughter of UNKNOWN MOORE. She was born Abt. 1778 in Ireland, and died 30 Aug 1844 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. Notes for SAMUEL BOYD: Thomas' son Samuel married and had a son Thomas. His wife died and he married Jane Moore at Northumberland, Pennsylvania on September 2, 1799 in a ceremony "according to the rites prescribed by the Presbyterian church in America", by David Wiley. Two and possibly four of Samuel's ten children were born in Pennsylvania. Later Samuel moved to Virginia, then to Stark county, Ohio, then to Tuscarawas county, and finally to Holmes county. In the spring of 1847 he and several members of his family moved to Madison township, Davies county, Indiana, where he lived until his death on September 24, 1856. The older Boyds were all Presbyterians in religion and Jeffersonian democrats in politics. This Jane Moore is THOUGHT TO BE SISTER of the above Robert Moore. I am hoping that someone on this list will recognise Robert Moore and his family and be able to tell me where in Co Down they may have come form. As I AM HOPING THAT Samuel Boyd's father - Thomas Boyd family - may have come from the same district in County Down even though they appear to have been in the USA prior to 1763. Thank you. 3. As a follow up to this little item and the Registry of Deeds this will be digitized and the originals locked up. As to having the Index on-line, perhaps if we ask them they might consider it, one never knows. In this vein, the folks over at the UHF, which run at least 3 different web sites, have another rather interesting little collection of "partial headstone inscriptions" all on its own. The JMD and like while they recorded "complete" inscriptions [about 100 years ago] for the most part did include a rather large number of "partials" and like the ubiquitous [excuse my language - horse trader mentality over there] these too are only available "if you pony up the loot" another famous Irish/Celtic expression. Since 1922 the Republic has run a policy of "poverty be thine neighbour" and the preservation of records was and continues to be, shall we say somewhat less than enthusiastic. Its actually very amusing to watch ship load after ship load of tourist landing in Belfast and Dublin who make a mad dash to the local Registry Office for this that and the other to fine their long lost aunt only to come away a little light in the pocket and none the less better off. This is to be expected due to the rather huge hole [holes] in the records over there. But to the defense of the various Registries over there, the mess that ensues is disheartening to the staff who try their best and it takes a few days to clean the place up pending the next cruise ship. Please get this stuff digitized and lock up the originals. Now then if more of this stuff was made available on line then the wear and tear can be lessened, more can be done and if the Irish [north or south] can get their act together more people would consider "ponying up more [not less] of the Celtic coin". Essentially what the Irish need is a better business model which would include keeping the cruise ship folks at bay, so to speak. How about doing this all on line at one of the famous pubs in Belfast? Research should be at least painless - the Irish way ... and we'll make the Cruise lines pay for it .... we do need an Irish American to do this right though. Can we get a seconder on this one? Fiona, you can be our Treasurer - include a view overlooking a graveyard for atmosphere and copies of the JMD's on the walls with blank spots for notes and visitors to sign in and post their pictures etc. Eric The Registry of Deeds in Henrietta Street will be moving soon after three hundred years in the same place. Is there any guarantee that they will continue to be accessible in their new home, wherever that may be? Will be indexed online? ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NIR-DOWN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Reference note from Eric below I sense a great deal of frustration in this message and therefore, will allow Eric a degree of lattitude in his comments on a "contry full of horse traders". I am confident that when he reflects on these remarks he will, perhaps, feel a little ashamed. The suggestion that Americans and Canadians operate more sophisticated or (honest) processes and that this is not the case in Ireland, is really not an accurate reflection of reality.Or fair! Perhaps Eric, and those that nod in sympathy with his sentiments, should consider the relative size and resources at the disposal of a small country like Ireland. It was not so long ago that people were leaving those shores for the Americas because they were starving......they did not leave with much ... a name ...language, culture and some memories...my experience over the years has shown that the majority who travelled to the Americas did not leave their humility and good manners in Ireland. It is extremely irritating to learn that some of their children have forgotten the good manners and humility of their hungry ancestors. My people left Ireland 150 years ago and we all agree that this type of remark has no place on this site.... or any other..... Eric the forum await your unreserved apology. 3. Read your comment on the graveyards in County Down. I used this site puting in the name, years from 1800-1900 at 10 year intervals (1810, 1820, 1830, etc.)and all counties and got a lot of info. You might try it--I am like you, if I knew all the info they wanted, I wouldn't need them. Anyway, it gave me a few names and ideas on my people. Hope this helps you. 1. [NIR-DOWN] Marquess of Downshire's estate
    2. I am considering the possibility/probability,  that my HARPER family went  to  NE England a short time before 1851, from the Marquess of Downshire's estate.   I know that this estate was considerable, but I have been unable to find a list of towns and villages belonging to the Marquess.     Can anyone help please? 3. Is Eileen Simpson on the LIST? I have seen your request for info. on the Shiels and Cavanah names in Ballinran on Raymond's site. You may want to check out Sheila's transcription of the census at Pete's site. I am sure there is some of your family there. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~meaneypj/Co_Down_Stuff/1901_Census/ 1901_Census_Kilkeel_Parish/page_1_kilkeel_1901_census.htm#Ballinran Good luck!! 1. Re: [NIR-DOWN] name of the church
    2. What is the name of the church that sits in Kilcoo and is directly on the road from Castlewellan to Rathfriland? It is at where Tullyree road intersects with it and there is a cemetery in the back and a school on the side of it. I've asked about this before, but I think my brain is on overload or I have lots of cobwebs in there. I promise that I will write it down this time. I was confusing the arrangements with PRONI where you can now get a photocopy off the microfilms - using a special reader - for less than £1 each - my apologies for misleading you on that - 'tis an age thing perhaps!! No problem. Self service photocopies from microfilm at the National Archives, Kew are only 25p. On the day I was there during the past week, the charging mechanisims for the self service printers for the online records were faulty so all the prints were free!! Every cloud .....
