I found the following in the 1911 census Sommerville spelt with 2 M's And Thomas's age is out by a couple of years but ages in census seem notorious for being wrong Good luck in your search Patricia New Zealand -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Bob & Wendy Stevenson Sent: Monday, January 26, 2009 6:05 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [NIR-DOWN] 1901 Census I know that this census is supposed to be digitised, like the 1911 one and available online. Can someone please tell me if there is a household in Belfast where lives Thomas Corry Somerville, born 1893, so he would be age 7 or 8. When I try the census I get no Somervilles at all, and I know there were quite a number of them, including young Thomas. I would be interested in knowing the address and any others in the household. 3. Hi again It is 1853 and 54 that I have not 1855. Couldn't see anything in my files. You might try and look at Log of Logs by Ian Nicholson at libraries. There are 3 volumes and you need to check each one. I have the list from two of them - I think Vol 1 and 2 and the 1856 voyage is not listed so especially try for Vol 3. It may list who has passenger lists. Failing that you can buy a copy of the entry for your family from NSW State Archives for $25 or get it yourself much cheaper if you go yourself - you don't say where you are. They apparently had four children with them the youngest of whom was John Joseph. They came from, Ballynahinch area, Co. Down. If you want you can then order copies of the original index with their information on it. I did this for one of my lot and the index has a lot more information then that shown in the search results. 3. Hi Owen I don't know if this is of any help but the site http://www.blaxland.com/ozships/ shows the Kate sailed from London on 3 Aug 1854 and landed in Sydney 18 Nov 1854. It also sailed from Plymouth on 7 Sep 1856 and arrived (port not shown) on 23 Dec 1856. You can find these by following the "Arrivals" link. It provides the source of the info, but you will need to decipher what these are. Hopefully they'll lead to the passenger list. 3. Its a bit long winded but you could find the name of a spouse by searching the same Year or Quarter to look for other entries containing the same registration district, volume and page number as the groom using the next and previous page arrows. I suspect this may come up with more than one couple but it would produce a small shortlist for further consideration. 1. [NIR-DOWN] Patton, Gault, Callender, Laverty, McCormick, Laughlin, Hamilton, Northern Ireland
    2. Gord Patton
    3. I am looking for information on the families of my two Grandparents who were both born in Northern Ireland. John Patton was the youngest of 10 children born to Thomas Patton and Esther Callender. Born 1905. Had 7 siblings that survived childhood, and at least 4 that were alive after 1941. Sister Winifred b/1893 married Samuel Lyttle Downey in 1914/ ; Esther b/1895 married William Moore in 1919, Isabel b/1896; Agnes Vincent b/1898 married Edgar McCutcheon; Elizabeth b/1900; William Callender b/1902; and Vincent b/1904. My Grandfather emigrated to Canada in 1929. He married Maggie Gault the daughter of Hugh Gault and Sarah Laughlin. They were from the Belfast, Monkstown area. She had sisters Sarah, Jane, Susan, and a brother Hugh. Her three sisters ended up in the U.S. but I have not been able to find any information on her family in Ireland. The Patton family in Belfast seems to have dissappeared after 1941. They were in the Real estate business. I am aware that Agnes Vincent and her husband Edgar McCutcheon inherited one of the family homes in 1941. That was on Groomsport Road in Bangor. The two other brothers shared the rest of their mother's estate and business that had been passed to her from the estate of Thomas Patton in 1912. At the time of Esther Patton's death in 1940, William Callender Patton operated the Patton Estate business at 100 High Street, Belfast. Brother Vincent seems also to have been involved and lived on Shandon Road in Bangor. Do any of these names or events ring a bell with anyone? I am desperately trying to piece together the history of these families. Thanks Gord Patton Zurawel Patton Sample Tel: 1-416-303-5494 Fx: 1-905-576-4975 Em: [email protected] www.zps.ca

    3. Pennie: Try putting in just the last name, no dates, no locations. It worked for me. 3. There is no way to scroll through them - it's a pilot site and these particular records have just been listed (It doesn't note that the collection is complete so it probably isn't yet) - they will probably update it to allow searching by letter/date/place after the collection is just about complete online.  It's something they've done for other collections.  That said - there is a way although it's a very time consuming way to look through them page by page - put in a name, any name will do then choose one (preferably close to the time frame you are searching) that is a listing of a marriage/birth/death whichever event you are looking for .  At the detail screen there should be a picture of a ledger in the upper right of the page - click on that and it will bring you to an image of the Index page. Above the upper right of the image it shows what number image you are on out of how many are on the roll - you can jump ahead pages or just use the previous or next buttons.  You can make the image window slightly larger by clicking the tiny black triangle that points up just above the collection name, the image itself can be made larger using the zoom feature.  The box on the lower right will show in yellow what section of the page you're looking at. Please keep in mind that this is a pilot site - it's meant to iron out all the kinks and it's cheaper & easier than getting the microfilms from the LDS family history centers - there is a feedback button - top right of the page - to let them know what you thought of your experience.  Please read the Reliability section of the collection description, too - it very clearly states what discrepancies there might be, there were some posted concerns about the accuracy of the Indexes. Hope you find your names! --- On Sun, 1/25/09, Pen <[email protected]> wrote: From: Pen <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [NIR-DOWN] Irish BDMs To: [email protected] Date: Sunday, January 25, 2009, 6:21 PM Thanks for this. I cant find any of my family on here. they seem to be missing. Are these supposed to include everyone. My McTears are conspicuous by their absence. I would quite like to just scroll through the lists is there a way to do that please...anyone. thanks Pennie --------------------------------- 469 list members as of 8 Jan 2009 - hopefully at least one of them will answer your question! --------------------------------- Searchable list archive at http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/NIR-DOWN ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
