    3. Dear Sharon, I have forwarded your enquiry to a Michael J Harley who is an expert on sundials, and has a special interest in sundials in Northern Ireland. He lives in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. You can find some of his work on the internet by searching for his name and the word 'sundial'. He was able to help me 5 years ago when I was writing an article about a sundial for the Lecale Review, a local history journal which covers Lecale (east Co. Down (includes Ardglass/Ringfad). The sundial I wrote about was made in 1796 by a William Straney for a William Henry of Ballyhosset. Ballyhosset is only a couple of miles from Ardglass. 3. Dear James, William and Anton, Thank you all for your suggestions. I have looked through the ADM (admiralty) and WO records as well as the Naval wills section and found nothing that looked like a likely fit - or else (in the case of the Naval wills) there were too many documents that would have to be purchased in order to see if there is a match. I think I will wait until I have a few more longitudes and latitudes for him genealogy-wise. Once I can winnow it down a little, then the search is likely to be productive. Again, Thank you! 3. Shelia, I have a VERY tentative link. I have a number of Wiliam McCormicks in my tree, none the correct age however. I did have McCormick relatives of mine from Belfast who visited Donaghadee in 1933 and their daughter Louise, age 25, died suddenly while there. I always wondered why they were visiting there, thinking that perhaps they were visiting relatives. Here are my McCormicks: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=SHOW&db=airriess_family&recno=1448 Andy Airriess

    2. Jack McGivern
    3. My husband's Great-Aunt ELIZABETH McGIVERN, d/o Hugh McGivern and Jane Scott, b. 1875 Newtownards, married WILLIAM McCORMICK 02 Aug 1899 at First Presbyterian Church, Donaghadee. I haven't see the marriage registration and don't know William McCormick's father's name, but a witness was James McCormick. I haven't been able to find any trace of ELIZABETH (nee McGivern) and WILLIAM McCORMICK after that. All five of Elizabeth's full siblings emigrated to Canada but I haven't found any evidence that she did. Moreover, two of her nieces, who are still living, do not recall their father ever mentioning this sister, which makes me wonder if Elizabeth perhaps died early on in her marriage. Are there any McCORMICK researchers on the list who have these two in their tree? Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you. Sheila McGivern

    1. [NIR-DOWN] HASLETT/HASLIP family of Ballyroney, Drumballyroney Parish
    2. Sandra Tennant
    3. Hello: I am researching the Haslett families that lived in the Ballyroney, Drumballyroney Parish area.   I would love to make contact with any Haslett descendants still living in the  area or anyone who might have information about them. I've found that there are various spellings for this surname - Haslip, Heslop, Hyslop, Hazlett, Heslipp etc   I am specifically interested in a George Haslett whose daughter Sarah and son James married into the Tennant family but I'm sure there were more children as yet unknown. I would really like to fill out the family tree and get a more complete and accurate set of BMD dates for them.   Any suggestions? All help appreciated. 3. Hi all, I'm back after taking a long hiatus from this side of the family tree (my husband's side). Last week thanks to the 1911 census and the little gem "Civil Registrations 1845-1958" I've found more information in the 1 week then I had done after months of research. No the Civil Registrations don't appear to be complete yet....my husband was born in Banbridge in 1952 so technically should be on the list, but he isn't there....although I did find his mother and father's births....plus various grandparents and some great-grandparents. I would be very interested in contacting others with an interest in the above names or with an interest in the Benagh/Crobane/Dysart (Desert) area of Newry. This was a relatively small farming area and the families tended to intermarry. Also does anyone know of any online records for BDM s/Christenings/Marriages/Deaths pre 1845????? Or do I now have to rely on Parish Records? All this lot were Presbyterian/Unitarian. Oh and if anyone requires help with family who immigrated from Co. Down to Australia (particularly NSW) let me know as I know of a few places you can search records/indexes online. Cheers Kate

    3. Owen, If you go to http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/indexes/searchform.aspx?id=4 and just enter Carolan in the surname box of the search...up they will pop the whole family. If you want you can then order copies of the original index with their information on it. I did this for one of my lot and the index has a lot more information then that shown in the search results.
