    1. [NIR-DOWN] Administrative District Map
    2. Murray
    3. I have just uploaded the revised maps for Down in my Interactive Administrative District map of Ireland <http://ireland.kiwicelts.com/irishMap/ireMap.html>. The changes include: - a complete (corrected) townland database showing the townlands for each parish as defined in both the 1851 Census and the Griffith Valuation (as well as including all PLUs, Baronies, Councils, RC Parishes and Civil Parishes as defined in 1851 and 1861) - maps of all Civil Parishes showing both the 1851 and Griffith (ie ca 1861) versions as well as some other districts The changes which occurred between 1851 and (ca) 1861 were very extensive, particularly in the Upper and Lower Lecale Baronies and the 1851 and Griffith versions of the Parish maps are plotted in different colours and so you can easily see the differences. I have spent considerable time checking, but given the number of database entries (about 14,000) I may have missed some errors - please let me know if you spot any. It is very unlikely that I will ever get around to mapping all townlands here, however in other counties people interested in particular areas are creating the Townland maps. If you are interested in doing this let me know. You will need access to Google Earth, have lots of memory (1Gb but preferably 2Gb of RAM not hard disk), an eye for detail and lots of patience, but it isn't terribly hard. And please keep clicking on the Adverts - it is harmless, only costs if you decide to purchase something and assists and encourages me to do more to the site! I would also like to specially mention Ros Davies fantastic website http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rosdavies/ it is a fantastic resource, without which I would have gone totally bonkers trying to find 'lost' places! 3. Thanks Rosemary, I came to the same conclusion regarding Balleny/Bellany last night after I had sent the email. I found a map of townlands in the Civil Parish of Dromore at Ros Davies site: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rosdavies/MAPS/DromoreTownlands.htm I found this baptism record on the UHF site at: http://www.ancestryireland.com/ Costs a few pounds to explore - and I sat at my computer wondering if I should part with £4 to gain access to record which appeared in the index - and which contained no dates. The names were right - but the names were common. But I have been looking for so long, I decided to make the jump - and what a find! All I knew about my O'Neills is that we were probably from Co. Down - but had no definite proof and had no info as to where in Co. Down we may have come. And this record solved my long standing puzzle. Now to try to make way even further back. The UHF must be adding more and more records on-line. And.. cheaper than a trip to the PRONI. Love it. No death certificate I have gives parents/spouse. Just in case you find any earlier death entries you may like to know that the LDS have filmed the Volume Registers for Deaths from 1864 to 1870, so you can hire the film from them at any LDS Familyhistory Library. 3. Your suggestion is interesting. I have an Allan MARTIN (1743-1820) of Ringfad who had a son, John MARTIN (1784-1847). This John would be too young to fit your scenario, but is is not unlikely that he had an uncle John, a younger brother of Allan MARTIN. I suspect I'll be able in time to patch this together. Thanks!
