My father was a Breadman, also known as a Bread Server, first with a horse and cart and later with a bread van. He worked for Wm McComb's bakery (later part of Inglis), and collected his bread on trays from the train at Coleraine station. Then they opened a depot near Portstewart and the bread came by road. In 1954 we moved to the country, between Tobermore and Draperstown, and he had a job with the Co-op. They delivered the bread to their salesmen in a huge van, the size used by furniture removers. I think the equivalent occupation today is concerned with frozen food! My grandfather, also William ROSS, was head gardener to Messrs Hubbard & Alcorn in Limavady, and moved in 1912 to become greenkeeper to the Coleraine Bowling Club. His father, John ROSS, was a surveyor among other things; John's brother James was a doctor, and worked for his first year or two (c1877)in Claudy with Dr Allison before moving on and eventually settling in Lancashire. Any news of previous generations of this family will be welcome! Ossie Ross England
