Hello I would like to know if anyone has information on a Jacob Thompson b late 1799's Ireland & lived in Artikelly in Aghanloo Derry just over a bridge on River Roe N of Limavady. Is that village still there? Jacob went to Quebec Port in 1833/4 (according to a reference in Brian Mitchell's book on Immigration) along with his wife Mary, daughter Anne F & son Jacob Jr. Jacob Jr was my ggrandfather. The family settled in East Gwillimbury Tp, York Co Ontario by 1837(Directory of York Co). Would like to know how to find what was Mary's last name? They were Church of Ireland. and if any records are available in that time frame for a marriage record. Can anyone advise me? This is a real stumbling block for going backwards. Thank you Ivaj
Ivan I research Dysarts in Artikelly and surrounding townlands in Aghanloo. Aghanloo is the parish and this is made up of several townlands of which Artikelly is one. They are not villages. Some bigger townlands may contain a village but Aghanloo is mostly farming country. Your best bet is to consult the parish church records. . This would be Drumachose parish church . If you have a Family History Centre near you they are available on microfilm. I can't rememer how far back they go. From 1831 census index Census Index: Ireland, 1831-1841 Thompson, Alexander Township : Ahanloo Microfilm : Page 019 Thompson, Jacob Township : Ahanloo Microfilm : Page 010 Thompson, Margaret Township : Ahanloo Microfilm : Page 017 Thompson, Matthew Township : Ahanloo Microfilm : Page 001 Thompson, Rexy Township : Ahanloo Microfilm : Page 006 The full record of this census will not give you mmuch more info than you already have, except (from memory) the number of persons in the householhd __________________________________________________________________ From the Tithe Applotment Books Index Index to Tithe Applotment Books, 1823-1838 Thompson, Mathew County : Londonderry/Derry Parish : Aghanloo Townland : Ballyhenry Year : 1825 Thompson, Matthew County : Londonderry/Derry Parish : Aghanloo Townland : Ballyhenry Year : 1825 Thompson, Rex County : Londonderry/Derry Parish : Aghanloo Townland : Ballycastle Year : 1825 ___________________________________________________________________ Index to Griffith's Valuation of Ireland, 1848-1864 Thompson, Jane County : Londonderry/Derry Parish : Aghanloo Location : Ballyhenry East Thompson, Joseph County : Londonderry/Derry Parish : Aghanloo Location : Drumbane I include these as there may have been relatives who did not emigrate. All of Artikelly was owned by the Earl of Waterford. I have not found any early rent records of the estate, but I live in hope that they have so far eluded me in PRONI. ______________________________________________________________- From Boyles recordsof Limavady 1660 Robert Thompson , Tanner elected Freeman. My note : A lengthy note goes on to explain that there were many tanneries licensed in the area. For general background info the ordnance Survey Memoirs of Ireland are very good. The volume you need for this are is No 11 Roe Valley lower The only other thing I would say is that Thompson is a fairly common name in Co Derry.
