    3. Hi Lee, It's lovely to hear from you. I had heard of this particular Donegal family but, please tell me, just who is Dixie ELLIS - is he a brother of Phillip and Arthur ? So many ELLIS families and my Dr James could fit in anywhere ! There seem to have been a lot of ELLIS men from Ireland who were naval surgeons - I have the will of a Samuel ELLIS, from Augher Clogher, County Monaghan/Tyrone dated 1802, whose father and brother were both called Edward. As my James called his eldest son, my 2 x gt grandfather "Edwin" (and it was interchangeable with the name "Edward" then), that might also lead me in that direction. I have to tell you a story which I hope won't sound daft. I've been to Ireland twice - once in 1978 when I stayed in Schull, Cork and again in 1998 with my husband and young daughter. When preparing to take the second trip, I rushed around and collected brochures and pamphlets on the various places we were going to visit. I was reading one of these pamphlets and was (very) taken aback to see a woman who was my double in a tourism ad for County Monaghan ! She was making lace at an historical re-enactment village. I had never had the experience of seeing someone who looked just like me before (and I haven't since !). I am quite Irish looking - red hair, grey eyes, pale skin so I suppose it shouldn't have come as a surprise but it's a very strange sensation nonetheless. We never did visit that part of Ireland unfortunately. Now I'm wondering ........................ I am now trying to check out the house "Crona" in Yass to see if he definitely did build it - if that's true then I imagine he more than likely comes from Donegal. I'm also chasing up the Orange Lodge angle as kindly suggested by Judith and Cheryl on the list. This is a very helpful list ! Many thanks.
