Good morning listers. This is my introductory posting after having lurked for a few weeks. I'm looking for my great grandfather, Christopher SCOTT born Ireland 1844-1848. Most likely Presbyterian and connected to the flax industry. Father's name Robert Scott. And that's about all I know apart from what happened when he came to England c 1874. I'm trying to find his baptism/birth and I'm struggling badly, so if anyone can help out with this I would be eternally grateful. I did find a Robert Scott and a Christopher Scott close together in Coleraine, which is why I joined this list. Is there anyone with any records who might be able to have a look for him please? or suggest where I might look further? TIA Maggie
Maggie I think you have two ways to find out when and where he was born. >From his Death Certificate in England or from The Coleraine Chronicle, Births, marriages and deaths 1844-1869, David A Beck, 2003,. When I was in the Ballymena Library last year they had this book. So you could either Email them or contact the Coleraine Chronicle directly - if you think that he came from the Coleraine area. I was taking out the Boyds listed, so I did not ask what sort of area it covered in both County Londonderry and Antrim. Hopefully this will help you to find your Scott's. Once you find that you may need to look at the Griffith Valuation to see what else you may find out about your family.
