Greetings from Sunny Texas, Sometimes complete strangers can be a real blessing. Last night a lady in Australia brought to my attention a posting about a Robert Johnston who appeared to be from our family. He is! Today I found out that the posting had been made by another stranger (to me) who was the daughter of a friend of an elderly Johnston who was curious about his family. He had the following information written down by his grandfather: "Robert Johnston, b. 1767, d. 1 Dec 1849, married Mary Porter Brown. Two of their sons were Robert "Red Robin" Johnston, b. 1808 in Ireland, and Archibald Johnston, b. 1815 in Ireland." >From our oral family history we have that Robert, b. 1767, was born in Scotland and moved to Ireland where he married, raised a family and died. Robert "Red Robin" and Archibald moved to Upper Canada ca. 1832. One or more siblings died on the journey over. A married sister may have remained in Ireland. If anyone has any information on Robert Johnston '67 and Mary Porter Brown I would appreciate very much hearing from you. Cliff. Please disregard the previous message. There has been some erroneous information circulating for the past 8 years on our Robert Johnston, b. 1808 in Ireland. It all started with an unrelated Johnston in northern Ontario making a "leap of faith" taking our Johnston family in Prescott Co. and mingling it with their Johnston family in Brampton. We both had an Archibald b. 1815 and a Robert; however, our Robert was b. 1808 and died in Prescott Co., and theirs turned out to be b. 1810 and died in Brampton. It took me 8 months of intensive work to find the error, but the damage had been done. Others picked up on it via various posts, etc.. One elusive source kept the error alive and gave it a life of its own, much to my chagrin. This morning I finally heard from that source and hope to have her correct the errors. I apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused anyone. Needless to say I'm crestfallen, but I may have halted the propagation of the error, finally. Good hunting, Cliff.
