Frances I would suggest that you contact the UK Embassy in Washington DC or nearest UK Consulate to you and ask their Information area where you can get informatiion on which unit in the British Royal Artillery he was serving with in 1788. Or you could try the Imperial War Muesum in London - sorry I do not know their Email address but if you goggle them, it should give it to you. For Regiments of Foot, you need their Regiment to find their service records, but I am not sure what is required for British Royal Artillery. You may them need a private researcher to find his service record in the British Public Records Office at Kew, London. Hope that this will help. Just checking to see if anyone has any info on the McWhirter family in Maghera in the mid 1700s to the mid 1800s. Looking for the family of Samuel McWhirter, b. 1785 and Mary Ann McCune/McKeown b. 1789. His father MAY have been John. Samuel was a weaver and a member of the Seceder Church in New Wilmington, PA. He brought his family to America in 1822. Can't find the actual passenger list, but we do know he came down the St. Lawrence River to Erie, PA and then made his way south to Mercer County. The name is also spelled McQuirter, McQuarter, Mewhirter, McWhorter, etc. Amy McWhirter Hutton

Good morning from Savannah, Georgia, If possible, I am looking for an Alexander Forsythe from Londonderry. He was born about 1863, I have no actual area/parish identified. His mother was either Bridget Flanagan or Casidy. I have hand written old letters from family past that gives his mother with both last names. Alex immigrated to the USA in 1907 and came through Ellis Island. My grandfather said little about his life in Ireland though I know my father wrote letters to family still in Ireland in the 40s, 50s and 60s.. I had a pen pal from Ireland when young, who was family and I think her name was Kelly..... or .......Kelly. I wish I had still those letters to find my families' genealogy. Also, my father said my grandfather had a brother who settled in Canada and that he and my grandfather would exchange letters with family pictures. My father said he thought the brother's name was John. Any help so appreciated. I have tried ANCESTRY GENEALOGY site here but without actual dates I have not been successful. Thank you. Are there any records of JOHN BOGGS birth in Ireland or death at the above dates? This is my brick wall. Can anyone help? Hello, I am desperate to find information on the DALY family from Derry, Northern Ireland. MARY GABRIELLE (or ANN) Daly was born ca 1873 to WILLIAM DALY and MARGARET GILESPIE who married ca 1868 in Londonderry. She may have had siblings JOHN born ca 1869, BRIDGET born ca 1876 and ELLEN born ca 1878. MARY DALY came to Victoria, Australia in 1911 aboard 'MORAVIAN' with a group of Irish girls who were to help establish a linen factory. The Daly family had relatives/friends in the Strabane area. I would be most grateful for any information on this family, Regards, Jenni Gibson Melbourne, Australia Send instant messages to your online friends http://au.messenger.yahoo.com
I am searching for the father of Andrew McKee who immigrated with his parents and brothers in 1757 to the USA. He was born in 1747 in Northern Ireland, probably in the Coleraine area. He may be the son of William McKee b. 1696 in Minnigaff, Kircudbright, Scotland,, but we need proof. Anyone have any information about William McKee and when and if he immigrated to the USA. He could have left from Londonderry. Is there any way to find a record of him in the Londonderry area? I would greatly appreciate any help that I can get. His name could have been spelled Mackey. Ilene Jones

The Public Record Office of Northern Ireland [PRONI] hosts a Geographical Index: the following link lists all the townlands, in alphabetical order, for the county Antrim. Perhaps you'll find a better "fit" for "Belmera" there. http://www.proni.gov.uk/geogindx/townantr.htm Maghera is the major town in the parish of Maghera, county Londonderry. It is located at the intersection of the main mail roads connecting Londonderry to Belfast, and Coleraine to Dublin, near the southeast corner of County Derry. There are a couple other tiny hamlets, but nothing else. Tim Seattle

Looking for information of Alexander Thom(p)son, born in Scotland departed there for Ulster Ireland in 1711. He arrived with his wife Mary and daughter Jannet. He had three other children born in Ireland, Alexander, James about 1716 and Sarah. They lived in Ireland until 1725 when they departed for North America. His wife Mary may have died in Ireland as he is shown as a widower on his arrival in North America. His haveing lived in Derry County, Meghera Parish is based a lot on an entry found in Scotch Irish Pioneers in Ulster and America VI, Hometowns of Ulster famlies 1691-1716, which read "Alexander Thomson, R.E. 171, Maghera, Derry" His occupation was that of a Cordwainer, a leatherworker. Best to you Wallis Thompson
My Great grandfather, James WALLS, b. May, 1832 in County Derry, emigrated to New York, May 1853 , aboard Ship "Union". His occupation is given as "Weaver". He was the son of John and Anne Walls. Maggie I think you have two ways to find out when and where he was born. >From his Death Certificate in England or from The Coleraine Chronicle, Births, marriages and deaths 1844-1869, David A Beck, 2003,. When I was in the Ballymena Library last year they had this book. So you could either Email them or contact the Coleraine Chronicle directly - if you think that he came from the Coleraine area. I was taking out the Boyds listed, so I did not ask what sort of area it covered in both County Londonderry and Antrim. Hopefully this will help you to find your Scott's. Once you find that you may need to look at the Griffith Valuation to see what else you may find out about your family.
