    3. Thank you for looking. I am not sure of the Witherow connection but the facts seem to fit. I am just looking for that little piece of information that may provide confirmation. Regards, Christine -----Original Message----- From: nir-derry-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nir-derry-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Linda Gilmore Sent: Friday, 27 April 2007 18:35 To: NIR-DERRY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NIR-DERRY] Londonderry Sentinel Checked both by names and date and nothing appears. However, many people did not put notices in the papers at that time. The Londonderry Sentinel, certainly at that time, covers a wide area from Derry (Donegal, Sligo, Tyrone, north Londonderry). The surname Witherow is quite common around Auglish, Feeny. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Christine Tregonning" <CJTregonning@xtra.co.nz> To: <> Sent: Friday, April 27, 2007 3:19 AM Subject: Re: [NIR-DERRY] Londonderry Sentinel > Thank you Linda for this information. > > You have probably been inundated with requests. 3. Dear Linda, I'm sorry - I left out the "Derry" in the Londonderry in my post request! Please pardon my ignorance. Maureen. ***************************************************************** Dear Linda I would be so appreciative if you could look up any birth information for Patrick O'DOHERTY, born circa 1846. Father's name apparently was Owen O'DOHERTY. This is one of my 3 brick wall names, so I would be most grateful if you could look up and see if any information was available. The O'Doherty's were privileged, so they may have placed birth information in the paper. I believe that Patrick had 3 other brothers (at least) but know of little other information. 3. Hi Virginia Many doctors from the north-west of Ireland qualified in medicine at Glasgow University or at Edinburgh. Among the Mitchell's from the Glendermott valley, I know of one (b. 1788) who trained in Dublin (and in the Royal Navy). There were several others from the Londonderry and Tyrone area who studied at Glasgow or Edinburgh. To put it another way, I have followed up on all the Irish-born Mitchell's who studied medicine at Glasgow University in the 19th century. All of them came from (or were connected to) Glendermott parish, just a few miles south-east of Londonderry. Glasgow University alumni or archive staff were most understanding and most helpful. Please contact me off list for a name and address if you wish, but their website may be more up to date. 2. Linda Gilmore
    3. I didn't find Andrew Marshall's birth but there are apparently gaps in 1855 although I doubt it would have been in the paper at all. There are 18,700 deaths & 9,900 marriages but only 6,800 births in the paper- usually only the gentry or professional people put birth notices in a newspaper. The only marriage for a Robert Marshall that might fit is in 1843- Robert Marshall of Tubber to Margaret Stevenson. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Susan Marshall" <susan_e_marshall@hotmail.com> To: <> Sent: Friday, April 27, 2007 1:02 PM Subject: Re: [NIR-DERRY] Londonderry Sentinel - Marshall > Linda, > > You must be very busy looking up everybody's requests in the CD. > > Could you possible look up a couple for me. He is my ggg grandfather and I would really like to know his birth date and confirmation of his parents, so I can move further back. The man in question is Andrew Marshall, born about 1845 - 1855, more than likely in Drung, Donegal. His father was Robert Marshall - which is a common family name. I believe that the birth could be registered in the Sentinal, as when Andrew got married in 1874 to Margaret Reid, they did so in the Strand Road Presbyterian Church - even though both were from Donegal. Your assistance would be most appreciated. Susan _________________________________________________________________ Solve the Conspiracy and win fantastic prizes. http://www.theconspiracygame.co.uk/
