    1. [NIR-DERRY] Archibald & Elliott 1700's and Before, Londonderry and Scotland
    2. My ancestor, Maj. David Archibald, was born in County Londonderry on 20 September 1717, and married Elizabeth Elliott on 19 May 1741, presumably in County Londonderry. She was born in County Londonderry on 10 June 1720. David appears to have been born in either Colraine or Maghera(not certain whether it was the Parish of or the village of). Does anyone have records with the exact locations for these two births and marriage? Can anyone tell me who holds these records today? Material I have found indicates this Archibald family may have come to Ulster from Dumfries / Dumfries and Galloway and the Elliotts may have come from Roxburghshire somewhere near Hermitage Castle.Has anyone matched up the Archibalds and Elliotts from Londonderry with these families, and if so, what are the exact locations. I'm guessing that these families came to Londonderry around 1600, so there would be several generations. Any help will be most appreciated, particularly with Elliott. 2. Cliff. Johnston
    3. Please disregard the previous message. There has been some erroneous information circulating for the past 8 years on our Robert Johnston, b. 1808 in Ireland. It all started with an unrelated Johnston in northern Ontario making a "leap of faith" taking our Johnston family in Prescott Co. and mingling it with their Johnston family in Brampton. We both had an Archibald b. 1815 and a Robert; however, our Robert was b. 1808 and died in Prescott Co., and theirs turned out to be b. 1810 and died in Brampton. It took me 8 months of intensive work to find the error, but the damage had been done. Others picked up on it via various posts, etc.. One elusive source kept the error alive and gave it a life of its own, much to my chagrin. This morning I finally heard from that source and hope to have her correct the errors. I apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused anyone. Needless to say I'm crestfallen, but I may have halted the propagation of the error, finally. Good hunting, Cliff. 2. Cliff. Johnston
    3. Greetings from Sunny Texas, Sometimes complete strangers can be a real blessing. Last night a lady in Australia brought to my attention a posting about a Robert Johnston who appeared to be from our family. He is! Today I found out that the posting had been made by another stranger (to me) who was the daughter of a friend of an elderly Johnston who was curious about his family. He had the following information written down by his grandfather: "Robert Johnston, b. 1767, d. 1 Dec 1849, married Mary Porter Brown. Two of their sons were Robert "Red Robin" Johnston, b. 1808 in Ireland, and Archibald Johnston, b. 1815 in Ireland." >From our oral family history we have that Robert, b. 1767, was born in Scotland and moved to Ireland where he married, raised a family and died. Robert "Red Robin" and Archibald moved to Upper Canada ca. 1832. One or more siblings died on the journey over. A married sister may have remained in Ireland. If anyone has any information on Robert Johnston '67 and Mary Porter Brown I would appreciate very much hearing from you. Cliff. 2. Ross FULTON
    3. Linda, Been away from my emails a few days - the board has really come to life with what you are doing! Your work is appreciated by all. If you are still able, could you please have a look for Fulton entries. My Fultons seem to be in south east Londonderry around Castledawson, Maghera & Magherafelt. Prior to about 1820-1830 I'm not sure where they are from - there is a a theory (another board contributor) that they came from Tyrone. Interested in all Fultons but particularly names: James, Alexander, Samuel, Joseph, Abraham & William Henry. There may have been a strong Presbyterian link. Thanks. Ross Fulton, Sydney - Australia.
