    1. [Derry] Neill family, Limavady/Taques Hill, etc.
    2. Michael Neill
    3. Greetings all. I am still looking for information on the family of John Neill, born ca. 1810. He had at least two sons, Samuel and Joseph, born in the 1830s in County Derry. In 1864, Samuel and Joseph listed their residence as Newtown Limavady when they emigrated and went to Canada. How long they had lived in that area I'm not certain. Samuel and Joseph were supposed to have had several more siblings, but I do not have any names. Joseph was married in Ireland and I've got a copy of his marriage information as well as the christening record for his one child born in Ireland. On 16 January 1862 at the Derrymore Presbyterian Church, Joseph NEIL[sic] and Ann BRYCE[sic] were married by Wm. [JAMISON?], with witnesses of Wm. MC INTOSH and John ARCHIBALD. Joseph was of full age and was a bachelor who lived in [Taques] Hill in the parish of Drumachose. Joseph was a servant, and was the son of John NEIL[sic] who was a laborer. Ann was a spinster of full age and was a servant living in White [??] in the parish of Drumachose. Her father was James BRYCE, a laborer. Joseph and Samuel went to Canada in 1864, eventually migrating to Illinois, US, in the late 1860s. Any clues, leads, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    3. Helo Tira. If you go to www.ulsterancestry.com and click on "Townlands of Ulster" you will find a complete listing of all townlands taken from the 1851 Index to the townlands and towns of Ireland. You may find your "missing" townlands there. I hope so! (ps From this weekend there will be searchable maps available at this page as well. They are due to go live on Friday) Regards Robbie >From: "Tira Evans" <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: [Derry] Mystery Towns >Date: Wed, 5 Mar 2003 21:48:23 -0800 > >Greetings and Salutations, > >I am trying to discover two mystery towns that are probably in Derry. > >In the Burying Ground at Garvagh, not the main street Pres. 3. Davy, thanks so much for finding the Evans and Walsh surnames in the 1831 census in Magherafelt. One of my contacts tells me the Evans were from the townlands Anahorish and The Creagh which are in Magherafelt Parish. Would these places be listed in the 1831 census? If you have time, could you see if there are Evans, O'Neill, or Walsh names listed in them? I really appreciate what you're doing in helping us find our Derry families! This certainly is a great list to subscribe to! Joyce Colleen in Indiana

In memory of his son Thomas who died the 6th October 1857 aged 4 years and 6 months also his son Robert who died the 12th June 1978 aged 33 years and in the same cemetery a WILSON headstone: Erected by David Wilson of Trinaltinagh(?) to the memory of his beloved wife MARY who departed this life 22nd September 1875 also their daughter JANE, who departed this life January 1870 aged 2 years The above named David died Can anyone give me any help on INCHALUIN and/or TRINALTINAGH? Both stones were badly decayed and hard to read. Best Regards, Tira ELDER, CRAIG, SHARKEY, MARSHALL http://www.geocities.com/inchelder

    3. Larry Locating the Townland your ancestors came from is the key, although your Simsons left Ireland some members of the family would, almost certainly remain. You could start by finding out which Parish, Poorlaw Union and Registration district your Townland is/was in and look out Births Marriages and especially deaths for Simsons after compulsory registration. When you are reasonably sure that some of your Simsons are still there you can try the 1901 and 1911 census. Have you looked at Griffiths valuation? I can do a look-up if you require. Let me know how you get on Cheers Davy
