    2. Diane Bland, I know something about Junkin. Without digging out my records, this is what I remember: My gggrandfather, William Godfrey, owned land with several others, including Ringing Junkin, in the Griffith's Valuation of about 1855. I also have a copy of a court case involving this land between Junkin and Godfrey dated about 1862. What do you know about Ringing? Susi Godfrey

    2. Sharon D'Anna, How did you get a copy of Brian MItchell's Irish Passenger Lists 1847-1871? I''ve been dying to see if my ggrandfather is listed there. He was in the US by 1873, so I think he probably came over in 1870-1871. Would you consider doing a lookup for me for John B. Godfrey? Thanks for all help! Susi Godfrey

    3. Sharon Park is etween Claudy and Dungiven, Try Ordnance Survey Discovery Series Map 7. They are available by mail order if you can't find a stockist. www.elstead.co.uk is one I have used and found reliable. You will be looking for other leads to follow. Local to Park is Learmount which was home to the Beresford family. I haven't done any research in this area but it might be worth looking for rent rolls or estate records. The Ordnance Survey Memoirs of Ireland series gives a lot of background info You need the volume for West Londonderry Vol 28. I flipped through it just now and found 'The name O'Gormely is very frequent in Stranagalwilly..' None of these books is indexed. There are a lot of Gormleys in the Claudy area and just over the border between Tyrone and Derry. I went to school with some of them. 2. I am so excited to get yet another kernel of info. Just got a copy of Mitchell's Irish Passenger Lists 1847-1871. I had known that my ggf, Thomas Gormley was "from Derry." Have his intent to become a citizen which lists him as emigrating to New Orleans from Derry 31 Dec 1852. He moved on to KY and fought in CSA Army as one of Morgan's Raiders. This I knew. What I found in the Mitchell book is the manifest of the ship, the Mary Ann (J & J Cooke) for that trip. My Thomas Gormley is on it. He listed his address as "Park." Now I am in the dark. I know that the Gormley name is found around Raphoe, Donegal and into Derry. Cannot find "Park " on any map that I have. Can anyone help, please? Sharon D'Anna Annapolis

If your James Ellis was a member of the Lodge then he would have belonged to a Lodge in the Yass area. It's worth a try. Unlike many folks who are very organized in their research, I am not, and don't make the search a second "career". But you were asking about the Ellis' in Donegal. There was a Phillip Barbazon Ellis Born 8th May 1806 in Donegal, father, was Arthur Ellis and his mother was Jane Barbazon. Phillip apparently had a brother Arthur, born August 1, 1815. Phillip Barbazon Ellis and his wife "Mary" had a son, George Ellis, christened 10 December 1853 in Burslem, St. Paul, Stafford, England. Interesting that your ancestor left a picture of the Battle of the Boyne in his will, because the incredibly beautiful stain glass windows in St. Columb's Cathedral also depict the same thing. I note with great interest how your Ellis family also suffered the same affliction as the rest of us, we were known as the "Ellises with the wandering feet). I don't have time to write further as I must get to work. But have a great day :) Lee Ellis

From this data I believe he was born c. 1792/3 and he received his MRCS in 1813. He married my 3 x gt grandmother, Elizabeth FUZZEY, in Bromley, Kent England in 1822 and they had four children at least - Elizabeth, Edwin James (my 2 x gt grandfather), Alfred & James Fuzzey ELLIS. James spent prolonged periods on leave in Londonderry - 4 months in 1829 and 12 months from May 1830 to May 1831. Because James spent so much time on leave in "Londonderry" I am presuming that his family were there or somewhere in Northern Ireland. James was the Surgeon Superintendent on five convict ships to Australia in the 1820s/1830s and, on one of these journeys he met one of the daughters of the Captain of the Guard, Eli! za Ann(e) MCDONALD, and married her in Sydney in 1835 (bigamous marriage). (This captain of the guard, George MCDONALD had spent time, on duty, in Ireland also). James and Eliza Ann(e) moved to Yass New South Wales where he was the GP, magistrate and coroner. They returned to London in the late 1850s and he died there in 1863.The house he is supposed to have built in Yass was called "Crona" which might lead me to an association with Donegal (Templecrone) but, again, this could be just another "red herring" (one of many !! :-)). A fellow ELLIS researcher has told me that James may be the second son of Henry (Deputy Lord Lieutenant of the County of Derry) and his wife, Ann (nee MURRAY). They had three sons - Henry (born 1784), James and Hercules (born 1799) and a daughter, Mary. Unfortunately, there didn't seem to any information on James. It appears that a Henry (the father ?) died in 1829 which would tie-up with James' visits to Londonderry. I know that my gt-grandfather, Edwin James Fuzzey ELLIS, was an "Orangeman" and left a painting of the "Battle of the Boyne" in his Will (so, presumably, there was a commitment to that cause). Apart from that, I don't know where else to go (I've been looking for Dr ELLIS RN for twenty five years). All of the relevant English Censuses have been looked at and, unbelievably, the pages are missing !). I would be happy for anyone with a connection to any ELLIS family to contact me. Sorry this is such a long story and many thanks for taking the time to read this. 1. [Derry] NEW TO LIST - COLLINS OF LISSAN
    2. Hello Everyone, I am new to the List. I have just found out from an army researcher that my gt. gt. gt. grandfather James COLLINS was born in the parish of Lissan, in or near the town of Moneymore in 1780.. He enlisted at Cooks Town in the County of Tyrone in December, 1803 and served for nearly 14 years. In 1820 he married Margaret Smalley (Smellie) in Preston Lancashire. I would like to hear from anyone who is researching the COLLINS family from the above area in Ireland. Regards, Anne in Bolton, Lancashire.
