John FOX is recorded on his daughter’s Scottish birth registration as being born in Armagh Northern Ireland in 1808. Looking at the other birth registrations on the page, they record the city where the parents are born so I can only “assume” in John’s case, this means Armagh City rather than the county. We don’t know exactly which religion John Fox was. He was married in a Roman Catholic church in 1849 in Edinburgh after the birth of his third child. The three children were baptized four days after the marriage. His wife, 18 years his junior was from a Catholic family and was baptised in the same church in Edinburgh. The younger children in the family were baptised in the Catholic church as they came along. I’m not sure if there was a former marriage and family involved as the reason for the couple not marrying until the third child arrived – speculation only. I’d appreciate being pointed in the correct direction, where to start looking for the birth of John FOX in Armagh to be able to find the names of his parents and siblings.
