    3. Can someone with lots of experience in researching in Armagh tell me if it's realistically possible to find information in the period of 1826-1840? I asked a question and received several good ideas for places to look for information, but all begin after that period - example, Griffiths Valuation, which says it begins in 1847, even though it was authorized earlier than that. So I'm wondering if I have any hope of finding info from this early a period, or if I should just go on to other things! Thanks. Joanne Gaudio

    3. Joanne, You should try searching the Tithe Applotment books serving as a sort- of census of landholders for 1822-1837. If you look at the Latter Day Saints (LDS) Family History site at: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/ supermainframeset.asp?display=titlefilmnotes&columns=*%2C0% 2C0&titleno=319193&disp=Tithe+applotment+books+and+indexes%2C+fo++ you can find specific films covering surnames or placenames you are interested in. Then you have to go to your local LDS Family History Center and find out if they can order the films you want to look over. Some films are not available, and you might make a trip to Salt Lake City, or better yet to PRONI in Belfast to view the records. Or you might find a friend here or hire a genealogist to look through a few records for you. Secondly, PRONI has many records [in some ways not complete] with details about leased land. These seem to require an effort to look through, but you may find specifics about ancestors you are interested in if you should know fairly accurately where they lived in Ireland. Thirdly, there may be church records to explore. 3. Thank you, David. Maybe there's a ray of hope after all! I've been meaning to get up to the family history center near me anyway. Joanne Gaudio
