That now makes 3 soldiers from the Tandragee District who took part in the Battle of Waterloo that I am aware of. My interest in family history started over 8 years ago following the death of my father, also called Richard. Dad had served during the Second World War with the Armoured Battalion of the Irish Guards. As I said, I started out researching our family history but this soon expanded to include a history of the town of Tandragee, where I was born, and the general area. There is a war memorial in the town recording the names of those men from the district who lost their lives during the First and Second World Wars - so, I decided to try and find out more about their background and their military history. In doing so I came across the names of many more men and women from the area who had also served but survived the World Wars - so I decided to record these details also and, as these projects have a way of developing, my research has continued to expand to include men from the area who served in other theatres of war such as the Korean War, the Boer War and the Napoleonic wars. S! o that is roughly how I got to where I am today. My research continues on all fronts. Now that I know your interest I will keep a lookout for records of any Irwins from the Tandragee area that I may come across and will forward you the details. Thank you once more for your most helpful response and good luck with your own research. Regards Richard Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
