Author: HMcGinn1259 Surnames: McGinn Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.arm.general/9327.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The following is copied from my Brothers Keeper files: "A tombstone is located in St. Ann's Church on Jockey Hill northwest of Kingston, Ulster County NY for Bernard McGinn. The Tombstone reads "Bernard McGinn died April 5, 1881 age 42 yrs A man of Toriras land of Carnally County Armagh Ireland-Erected by his mother Sarah McGinn". 1074 Names of the Towns and Townlands of Co. Armagh by David A. Milsop (LDS #L11479 1279328) lists a Carnally (Carn-ailla) (meaning"Cairn of the cliff")in Silverbridge. No listing of a Toriras." I have driven thru the Townland of Carnally which is east of Cross Maglen and west of Silverbridge. The parish is either Upper or Lower Creggan. The Bernard McGinn whose tombstone is described above is the brother of my great grandfather Edward McGinn. Their father was James. Their first appearance in the US is in the 1855 New York State census. I have not been able to document them earlier, either on this continent or in Ireland.
