Could you tell me when your James was born? Do you know the parish he was from. As you probably know, the name Hughes is very common in Armagh, and the name James is also used often. My James Hughes might have been the son of Joseph Hughes of Middletown, Tynan parish, in Co. Armagh. This is a tenuous hypothesis at this point. He was born c1815 and emigrated to Stockport, England. I realize some of his children would have been named for his wife's family, but I believe most were Hughes names: James, Joseph, Peter, George, Eliza, Ann, and Alice.
