Message: 3 Date: Wed, 9 May 2007 21:08:31 GMT Dear Bruce, I am a subscriber to the nir-armagh-request@rootsweb forum and was interested to read your offer to Bart of a map showing townlands and parishes. I have found that my g.g.grandfather WILLIAM BENSON (c1827) is listed by LDS as having been born in "Armagh" and this is corroborated by the Glasgow census in 1881 where he obviously went for work (as a weaver) and declared all his children as having been born in "Armagh". (whether city or county not stated). His wife was named RACHEL Thanks to the marvellous people associated with this forum I have been remarkably successful in finding my family after WILLIAM but you will be aware of the problems with researching as far back as 1827 and I should be most grateful if it would be possible for you to also send me a copy of your map. I understand that my only hope of researching William's forebears is through parish records and I therefore need a list of all parishes in that part of Ireland around the early 1800s. Parish and other church names would be welcomed, if available. I know that by 1892 William attended a Wesleyan Methodist Church in Glasgow because his Bible is annotated thus, but that is a lifetime away from 1827 and his family could have belonged to any church in 1827.
